Thursday, November 6 - Christmas Stocking Sewing Day for Veterans

Join us at the Bluffton Library for Christmas Stocking sewing for our veterans. Drop in and stay for a while or stay the whole day. If you can bring your sewing machine that is wonderful. If not, no problem – we’ll have a job for you! Bring some fabric and some embellishments to share if you can.

If you can’t attend on this day, we will begin distributing patterns at our September meeting so you can make 1 (or more) stockings at home.

We will vote for our favorite stockings at the December Meeting and tally the results to see which member was the most prolific stocking stitcher!

How many stockings do you think we can complete as a guild?

Saturday, January 3 - Book Club Lunch and Discussion

If you enjoy books, mysteries and historical fiction and quilts you will want to sign up for a “one and done” book club. After the January Guild Meeting, we will go out to lunch (at a restaurant to be determined) for a discussion of the book “The Forgotten Seamstress” by Liz Trenow.

This book is a moving story of two women tied together by an heirloom despite the decades that separate their times in England. “The Forgotten Seamstress” quilts layers of history into one astonishing mystery.

Saturday, February 7 - Tara Miller of The Quilt District

Tara Miller is a quilt historian, pattern designer, teacher, and speaker who helps today’s quilters find their voice through fearless fabric play, masterful print mixing, and deep connections to the past. Her work blends bold modern design with rich historical context—modern quilts with meaning. Tara’s lectures, workshops, and retreats spark creativity and build community. She has taught throughout the U.S., as well as in England and France. Her work has been featured in Quiltmania, Quiltfolk, Simply Moderne, and more.

A former AQSG board member, she’s also co-hosted Quiltside Chats (YouTube) and worked with powerhouse quilt historians on The Six Know It-Alls. During her lecture “The Magic of Mixing Prints we will learn that mixing prints doesn’t have to feel overwhelming—in fact, it can be the most joyful part of the process. She will show us how to break out of the “matching” mindset and start combining fabrics from different designers, collections, and eras with ease. We’ll learn how to mix color, scale, and motif in a way that feels intentional, personal, and a little bit daring.  We’ll turn fabric chaos into quilt magic—together.

Saturday, June 6 - Lil Helming - “Pixelated, Not Pixillated” Quilt Trunk Show

Today our own Lil Helming will be our presenter. Lil majored in fibre arts in college studying weaving and fabric design, and interned at what was then known as the American Craft Museum in New York City. Post college, she pursued her love of fiber primarily through knitting and taught students of all ages for nearly four decades. About twelve years ago she made her first quilts, and was smitten with the craft. As a knitwear designer, relying on the pixelated methods to design colorwork, it was a natural transition to apply that method to quilting. Lil will take us through the design process, and inspire you to create your own pixelated designs during this “hands on” program.
