Sunday, January 3, 2027 (NOTE THE DAY CHANGE)– Christa Watson of Christa Watson Quilts

Christa Watson has been sharing her love of quilting for over 20 years, teaching others to enjoy every part of the quilt-making process. My quilting life changed for the better in 2013 when I discovered my passion for modern quilts and combined it with my style of “perfectly imperfect” machine quilting. She has authored several machine quilting books and numerous patterns. She currently designs fabric for Benartex as part of their urban, contemporary brand called Contempo Studio.

In this lecture/trunk show Christa will show us the fun in making the same quilt more than once to explore varied layouts, fabrics and quilting plans. See how different the same quilt can look just by making a few tweaks! This is a chance to see her quilts close up and ask any questions you have.

Book Club Meeting- The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd

If you enjoy books, historical fiction, Charleston and quilts you will want to sign up for a “one and done” book club. After the March Guild Meeting, we will go out to lunch (at a restaurant to be determined) for a discussion of the book “The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd. This book is the fictionalized history of the Grimke sisters, Sarah and Angelina (Nina) who were at the forefront of the abolitionist and women’s rights movements, wound around the intriguing narrative of a young slave, Hetty, who was given to Sarah as an 11th birthday present. Sarah despises slavery, even at that early age, and out of principle attempts to reject the gift. There is a fictional quilt in the book made by Charlotte which is based on two extant ones made by an actual slave from Georgia, Harriet Powers. These quilts are in the collections of the Smithsonian and The Boston Museum of Arts.
