2025 - 26 Design Challenge - CELEBRATE AMERICA!
Because it is America’s 250th birthday, and the spirit of America exemplifies DISCOVERY AND EXPLORATION, we will be incorporating the talents and interests of our guild members in our 2026 Quilt Challenge!
We are encouraging you to push yourself out of your comfort zone by challenging yourself to DISCOVER something new (technique or style) while EXPLORING an interest or a wonder you may have as it relates to America in some way. The challenge is FREE and wide open! We would love to see all of the talents of our guild shine on May 9, 2026!
The “rules” are simple:
You must incorporate a "Discovery for yourself”. Perhaps you will DISCOVER a new technique to use in your quilt?? (paper piecing, English Paper Piecing, sewing curves, embroidery, new border techniques, wonky blocks, prairie points, hand quilting, quilt your own quilt, or utilize new binding techniques, etc)
Perhaps you must EXPLORE an aspect of AMERICA. Perhaps you will EXPLORE a specific historical era, use Civil War fabrics, focus on Revolutionary War times, highlight a particular state, Presidents, Carol Doaks has a book of 50 states paper piecing patterns - maybe the states you’ve lived in or your home state?, Immigration over time, National parks, state parks, First Ladies, Women in Civil War times, American Women in Space Exploration, etc…. Whatever interests you have about America in someway
Your quilt (wall hanging or table runner) can be any size, incorporate any embellishments (or not), use any materials or fabrics, incorporate any colors! It can be a traditional block pattern or a modern landscape type quilt!
This quilt must, however, be made and created during this challenge period of Sept - May. The “big reveal” will be May 9, 2026.
SO… Let’s CELEBRATE, DISCOVER, and EXPLORE together in our quilt challenge! We would love for you to join the challenge!! Sign up at any meeting or text or call or email Debi Boccanfuso (203-984-7879 - debibo330@gmail.com)
